NB:  

Open C(omit 3rd) tuning is as follows:

 thickest   ---------------->  thinnest

The aim is to play the melody on the thinnest two strings,
whilst strumming at the same time on the other strings, with
the open (unfretted) chord. If desired, just the thinnest string 
can be used for the melody, and the other one can be left open to 
strum; however, using both strings for the melody makes the notes
stronger and more "twangy", and sounds better, with the strummed 
strings acting as a drone. 

The chord can also just be played on it's own to accompany the song, 
without the melody.

This tuning with accompanying melody sounds very good on an electric
guitar.


To retune guitar to Open C(omit 3rd) tuning:

-Play 5th fret of the G string for a C note, and then tune the B
 string up a semitone to that note (warning - tuning string higher
 than usual, be careful!)
-Tune thin E string down to sound the same as the retuned B string 
 (ie. a C note).
-Tune D string down 1 tone to get C note (should sound the same as 
 the retuned B and E strings, but an octave lower).
-Tune bass E string down 2 tones, to a C note (should sound the same 
 as the retuned D string, but an octave lower).
-Tune A string down 1 tone to a G note (should sound the same as the 
 note when you fret the 7th fret on the retuned E string).
